Estela Martinez, Paul Heller and Jim Porter took the oath of office as they were re-elected to the Plano School District Board of Education. Jim Porter was also re-elected as Board President. Board members agreed to change the start time of their meetings and, beginning with the May 18 meeting, all Board meetings will begin at 6 PM. Room Full of Visitors at Board of Education Meeting
There was a full house at the Plano School District Board of Education meeting as Board members honored musical accomplishments, athletes and a State speech winner.
Musical Accomplishments
High School Band and Choral Teacher Susan Webb discussed the musical accomplishments of 25 students who have attended Interstate 8, IMEA and Honor Band events this school year. Students are either chosen by their director or audition to attend these special events.

Middle School Wrestlers
Middle School wrestlers who participated in IESA Sectional and State tournaments were honored with framed resolutions and congratulated on their accomplishments. Trent Bowers placed fourth in State at 167 pounds and Anthony Ortiz was second at 275 pounds.

Three Point Showdown
Senior Aldo Nevarez received a framed resolution for participating in the IHSA Three Point Showdown tournament series. Aldo finished in the top 4 at the Plano Sectional Tournament and proudly represented Plano High School at the State Tournament in March.

State Speech Contest Winner
Ed Cann, along with being recognized for his musical accomplishments, received a resolution for placing third in the State of Illinois in the American Legion Oratorical Contest. He gave his award winning speech, entitled “A Republic, If We Can Keep It.”
